About Benjamin J. Lea

The Heritage of Caswell County, North Carolina, Jeannine D. Whitlow, Editor (1985) at 350-351 (Article #436 "The Family and Ancestry of Benjamin J. Lea" by Francis Andrews Maloney, Jr.):

"Benjamin J. Lea, son of John Lea and Winnifred, was born in the early 1770s in Orange County, N.C. His brother was one John Canebrake Lea (b. circa 1766) whose article by Susan DeGroote, appears elsewhere in this heritage book [article not found]. Benjamin J. Lea married February 9, 196, in Caswell County, Nancy Kerr, daughter of John Kerr and Mary Graves. For a rather full treatment of the Graves family, see Louise Graves's book. The Mary Graves who married John Kerr and had Nancy Kerr appears on page 68 of that book. Nancy Kerr was born December 18, 1774, in Caswell County when it was still part of Orange, and she died in Yanceyville on November 5, 1854. Benjamin Lea died in 1833. They had eight children born in Caswell County: John C. Lea, William Lea, Benjamin Lea Jr., Mary Lea, Alvis G. Lea, Calvin Lea, James Kerr Lea, and Cornelia K. Lea. (1)
