Bernard Samuel Johnson Bernard Samuel Johnson 92, passed away on July 16, 2009 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born September 27, 1916 in Pickens, South Carolina. He was sworn into the U.S. Army in 1941 and also served in the U.S. Air Force until he retired in 1971. He was a WWII veteran. He was stationed in Mt. Farm England during the war and served in the 8th Air Force in the 7th Photographic Reconnaissance Group. He also retired from the U.S. Geological Survey. He met his wife of 62 years while visiting the Vickers Armstrong Spitfire Factory in Reading, England where she worked. They were married in England on March 7, 1945. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Pope Johnson. He is survived by his five children: Carol Adair, Gavin Johnson, Sharon Treister, Debra Kaiser and Paul Johnson; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
