Betty J. Porch Edwards

ROANOKE RAPIDS - Betty J. Porch Edwards, 80, of 525 Rapids St., Roanoke Rapids and formerly of Gaston, died Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Northampton County, the daughter of the late Sam D. Jordan and Essie Hodges Jordan.

Mrs. Edwards was retired from J.P. Stevens after 34 years of service. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was a member of the camping family of Sherwood Forest Camp Grounds.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Thomas Edwards; a son, Waverly J. Porch; two sisters, Fannie Whitehead and Allie Goodman; three brothers, Billy, Jack and Samuel Jordan.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Ann Sparks and her husband, Larry, of the residence, and Linda Faye Benson, of Benson; three sons, Raymond Lee Porch Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Roanoke Rapids, Marvin Eugene Porch and his wife, Darlene, of Roanoke Rapids, and Billy Wayne Porch of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Joseph Jordan, of Gaston; one sister, Claire Gay of Roanoke Rapids; 21 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at Wrenn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gregory Minnick and the Rev. Bobby Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
