Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served during the Civil war as Colonel and commander of the 1st Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on August 4, 1865 for "meritorious services". It is reported that his metal casket is cast from a melted down Civil War cannon.
