First settler after buying a share of the Ohio Company for $1000 he came and surveyed the land. He then went back to Bellville, WV to purchase a family boat and floated down the Ohio river to the mouth of Leading creek. They used a pole to go as far up the creek to area known as Jacobs salt works. Here he and his boys took apart the boat and used the lumber to build a shanty while they cleared the land. This land later became the family graveyard.
