About Sullivan Amory Meredith

Birth: Jul. 4, 1816 Death: Dec. 26, 1874

Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Born in Buffalo, New York, at the start of the Civil War, he organized a company for the 10th Philadelphia Volunteers and was commissioned Captain. He was wounded at the Second Battle of Bull Run and after he recovered was promoted Colonel in command of the 56th Philadelphia Volunteers. He was later appointed commissioner in charge of the exchange of prisoners and held the post for the remainder of the war. For distinguished service, he was brevetted Brigadier General of US Volunteers by Congress. After the war, he engaged in the proprietary medicine business. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
