About Capt. James McKnight (USMC)

United States Marine Corps Officer.

Commissioned First Lieutenant on August 3, 1798, and promoted to Captain on September 1, 1798. He was killed in a duel with United States Navy Lieutenant R.H. L. Lawson on October 14, 1802 at Leghorn (Livorno), Italy.

He was married to Anne Pine Decatur, sister of Commodore Stephen Decatur. His daughter, Priscilla Knight, was adopted by his brother in law, and married Levi Twiggs of the United States Marine Corps.
