About John Snyder
US Congressman. He was educated in the schools of Selinsgrove and served in the War of 1812 as Captain and commander of the Pennsylvania Militia's Selinsgrove Rifle Volunteers. Snyder was active in several business ventures, including paper mills and the Snyder Spring Oil Company. In 1840 he was a successful Democratic candidate for the US House of Representatives and served one term, 1841 to 1843. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1842, afterwards resuming management of his business enterprises. John Snyder was the son of Pennsylvania Governor Simon Snyder and the brother in law of Congressman John Wilkes Kittera.
