About Samuel Bingham

Samuel Bingham (son of Thomas ) was an Assessor and a Constable in Windham .

--------------------

On May 4, 1711, his father Thomas gave him a farm on the east side of Beaver brook, probably on the road then leading from Windham to Scotland. Samuel was Lt. of the Train Band, May, 1727; he was assessor and for several years, constable. He became a "Separatist" in religion and had seen a New Light," and on April 16, 1753, signed a memorial against oppression by the stated or established ecclesiastical laws, which made the people pay taxes to support the regular or "standing" Congregational minister, whether they also supported a "Separatist" minister or not.--(Bingham, 1927, p. 227.)
