About William Baker Davidson

William Baker Davidson was the son of William Davidson, Jr. and wife Jinny. He was born in Virginia c.1794. He attended West point in 1814-15 and graduated into the Army. He died in battle in the Seminole Wars in Florida on December 25, 1840, at Indian Key, Florida. He is buried at St. Augustine National Cemetery.

William married Elizabeth Chapman Hunter, the daughter of General John Chapman Hunter. They had four sons. After William's death, Elizabeth married a Dr. Pope and settled in Georgia.

  • Gen. John Wynn Davidson, USA, born c.1824, graduated from West Point and made the army his career. He fought in the Civil War and on the Western Frontier. He commanded a troop of "colored" soldiers, earning him the nickname Black Jack Davidson.
  • Cmdr. Hunter Davidson, CSN, born in 1827 and died c.1900; graduated from the US Naval Academy; Served in the Confederate Navy aboard the CSS Virginia, also known as the USS Merrimac.
