About George Strout, Sr.

Capt. George Strout came about 1737 to Cape Elizabeth, now South Portland and settled on the south side of Long Creek and is fifth lot west from the point, (Long creek is a body of water that flows up by the Boy's School, also at back of Calvary Cemetery at Cash corner). He is probably buried at Skillings Burying Ground, Long Creek, South Portland. He lived to over 90 years of age and on October 22, 1782, he bid off at auction, a piece of land "at or near the brook that runs into Barberry Creek which was sold for taxes and on the same day made it over to his son George. "Capt." George Strout, Gentlemen, sold land to his son Eleazer Strout, adjoining land of his son Elisha and land of his son George, February 15, 1754." Capt. George Strout was mentioned in Cape Elizabeth records as late as March 1788.
