Henry Hungerford Marmaduke served in the Confederate Navy. He commanded a gun crew of 14 men on board the ironclad CSS Virginia (aka, CSS Merrimac) during it's historic battle with the ironclad USS Monitor in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

He was later captured and imprisoned on Johnson's Island.
After the Civil War, he served the U.S. federal government in negotiations with South American nations and commanded a ship in the Columbian Navy.
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Captain, Provisional Navy, CSA. Son of Missouri Governor M.M. Marmaduke who remained a unionist during the Civil War. His brother was Confederate General John Sappington Marmaduke, who was a post-war governor of Missouri. Was asked by the Colombian government in 1902 to skipper the warship Bogota chasing rebel ships up and down the Colombian coast.
