Östedt, Carolina Gustava
Governess for the landholder Topornin's nine chldren in Ufa, Russia, and later on ditto for her early deceased niece Anna Blanks children (i.e. Anna Ivanovna Grosschopff). Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Carolina first came to the growing metropolis Saint Petersburg as a three year old, together with her family. Died after 1860.
Backman (1995:258) explains that the cousins Anna Lovisa Borg and Anna Beata Östedt in Saint Petersburg ‘married German’ but that it was through the latter, and specifically through her sister―the governess Carolina Gustava―that the usage of the Swedish language was preserved in the family for later generations. Still Lenin's sister Maria was able to write letters using good Swedish.
