Sakthan Thampuran (1751-1805) of the erstwhile Cochin (now part of Kerala,

India) formed an Ezhava Battalion in his army,headquartered at Trichur, and

Charan was a member of that unit. For reasons not known he later deserted the

army and he is believed to be the forefather of our family.

He was known as "Kuthirakkaran"(കുതിരക്കാരന്‍), may be because of his army background.
