About Charles A. Hassler

I removed the Dr. and USA from Charles Augustus Hassler's name so it would fit better on the tree.

He was an MD, graduating from the University of PA in 1836. He was a surgeon for the US Navy. He lost his life saving others.

He was a member of numerous scientific societies.

Hassler died, lost at sea on the ship "Atlantic" in the Long Island Sound.

Although the newspaper accounts read that Charles died valiantly trying to save others on the ship, that's not what my grandmother Mildred Wilson Noce told me. She said that a loose plank on board the ship flew up and hit him in the head. He fell overboard and drowned.
