My uncle Joe (who lived with his son Burton and Irene) I remember always had pink mints to chew on. He was very nice to me (I was his namesake—my middle name is Joe). In later years, when I was just out of high school, my mother and I made a trip to visit him in Traverse City at his little cabin on his son Burton’s property. I have a tape recording of us three talking and I have the old 12 gauge shotgun that he gave to me at that time.
