Expected to land in Philadelphia, but because of high winds and rough waters were driven far off course, and ended up landing at New Orleans after a 72-day Atlantic crossing. According to family lore, then walked to Pennsylvania.
Lived on a farm near Pleasant Hall for several years, later buying a farm near McKinney, the buildings on which were still standing in the 1960s. The house was apparently built in about 1785, and was renovated in the 1950s.
After his wife died, he moved with his daughter Margaret to near Abeline, Kansas.
