About Charles A. Satterfield

Charles A. Satterfield, 97, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., transcended to his Heavenly life on Jan. 17, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 11, 1914, and resided in the Maryland/D.C. area until he retired to Destin, Fla., in 1976. Mr. Satterfield worked in the family business, Flaherty Brothers, in his early years. Charley's skills in carpentry, combined with his good business techniques, led to the success and growth of the company. He later became an agent for the Prudential Insurance Co. and received numerous awards for "top sales" and leadership. Charley loved boating and fishing and every spare moment was spent fishing on the Chesapeake Bay with steamed blue crab and crab cakes always on the menu for dinner. When he retired to Destin he continued his love of boating off the Destin shores. Predeceasing Mr. Satterfield was his wife and the mother of his children, Nora Flaherty Satterfield; and his grandson, David McWaters. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Shirley of Fort Walton Beach; daughters, Ruth McWaters Hollister of Fort Walton Beach, and Anita J. Frank (Fred) of St. Louis; sons, Armand J. Satterfield (Jan) of Pensacola, Fla., and Richard J. Satterfield (Linda) of Waldorf, Md.; two stepsons, Jan Berryman (Donna) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jim Berryman of Fort Walton Beach. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Emerald Coast Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach. Burial will follow the funeral service at Beal Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Satterfield's son, Jan Berryman, and grandson, John Berryman; Mr. Satterfield's grandsons, Andy Hollister, Tim Frank and Paul Satterfield; and great-grandson, Michael Prasek. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the loving care provided by David and Justin of the Fort Walton Beach Hospital Medical Center ER staff and special angel, Naomi, of the nursing staff at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. To those I love:

"Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears. But laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you. For who knows, but that I shall be oftentimes? And when you hear a song I used to sing or See a bird I loved, let not the thought of me be sad, for I am loving you in spirit, just as I always had."
