From Marguerite Tise's book;
"In 1790, Christian and Elizabeth Epperly joined the group with William Morricle and moved to Montgomery (Floyd) County, Virginia. Christian Epperly bought land on Old Field Creek, waters of Little River, on the north side of present Route 221 in Floyd County. He was a charter member of Zion Lutheran Church and attended faithfully. In 1841 when they were in their seventies, Christian and Elizabeth Epperly sought to make provision for their remaing years by the following arrangement:
Christian & Elizabeth Epperly - - for the love they bear toward their two sons, Eli & Joseph Epperly, - - - have granted unto them at his death the plantation whereon they now live - - - on Old Field Creek containing 222 acres to be equally divided between Eli & Joseph, their two sons, by them paying unto each of their sisters $50, that is to say, Mary, Sally, Elizabeth, Margaret, Rhoda and Lavina, daughters of said Christian & Elizabeth Epperly, and the balance of the personal property left at his death except the girls bed is to be sold and equally divided among them all, to wit: Eli Epperly, Joseph Epperly, Mary Epperly, Sally Epperly, Elizabeth Cronk, Margaret Epperly, Rhoda Epperly & Lavina Simmons, and the said Eli & Joseph doth agree to maintain the said Christian Epperly and Elizabeth his wife from the proceeds of the place when they shall not be able to maintain themselves.
Proven at Flyd County Court, 3rd Monday in February 1845. (Deed Book D, p. 81, Floyd County records, Jan 12, 1841)
No mention is made of their sons Jacob and William Epperly in this document and it is assumed that they had already received their share of their parents estate."
