Christiana was born in Wester Fowlis, Leochel-Cushnie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. In 1874, an atlas was published entitled, "Ashland County 1874" (publisher J. A. Caldwell). On page 92 is the artist's rendering of: "Vale of Alford, Residence of Mrs. William Forbes, Farm of 212 Acres, Clear Creek Township, Ashland County, Ohio." She was a homemaker caring for her husband and children. After her husband's death, she was Farm Manager of the Vale of Alford.
