According to Valentine's Manuel, Rip Van Dam, Governor of New York, was supposed to be the son of Jacob Van Dam, prominent in the New Netherlands under Governor Stuyvesant.

Mr. Pearson, author of the Early Settlers of Albany Co., N. Y., says... that the parents of Rip Van Dam were Class Ripse Van Dam and his wife Maria Bord.
