My granny was a devout woman, loved G-d above all else and did her best to instill a love of Him and His word in her children. She taught us to observe Shabbat and would not allow any work on Sabbath PERIOD. Because she was raised in her fathers Christian home, and due to my grandfathers’ untimely death, Shabbat fell on Sunday for us kids. She taught us to say prayers at least four times a day, and study the Tanakh daily. Had my grandfather lived, she and the children would have become members of Sharrie Torah, or perhaps Neveh Shalom. She was the youngest of eleven children, and perhaps a bit spoiled, but was a hard worker, adept at making all types of clothing, did fine needle work, and was marvelous in the kitchen as most women were in those days. Because of her staunch British up bringing she was extremely conscious of all things “proper”. She kept a huge painting of Queen Victoria on her wall from the coronation (bet grandfather would have rolled over in his grave if he knew about that) as a reminder to do the right thing always (go figure) and just as those of us who try to do the right thing in keeping kosher, granny kept according to the book of Hoyle thanks to the example set by old Queen Vic, Elizabeth, her father my great grandfather John Frost, and her precious scriptures.
