There is another photograph of Clarissa under the Media Tab above which was taken when she was much older and was found on Find A Grave.com. Clarissa was the daughter of Asahel Newell and Elizabeth Bushnell of Connecticut. She was particularly close to her sister Elizabeth who was known as Betsy. They were married on the same day and by the same person. Clarissa married Thomas Jefferson Reynolds June 22, 1835. They had 14 children. He died June 14, 1866, in Girard, Macoupin County, Illinois, at the age of 59 years old. Her sister Betsy died March 12, 1848, and Clarissa cared for her children before and after her death.

I have some letters from Clarissa's son, Stephen A. Douglas Reynolds, to my gr grandfather. One was written in 1900 from Virden, IL. Another was written in 1904 from Albuquerque. Another was written in 1904 from Trinidad, CO. And tthe last was written in 1914 from Porterville, CA. Your record says he died in 1910 - a little difficult if he wrote a letter in 1914!
When his mother died, he wrote my gr grandfather that "Mother died at 3 o'clock this a.m. with heart and bowel trouble. She suffered a great deal the last two days - Took sick Tuesday eve and will be buried to-morrow at about 3 o'clock PM." This was dated 21 Mar 1897 from Girard, IL.
