Claudia Bingham Dillman, A Gracious Lady, 1926 - 2006: Claudia Dillman passed away peacefully October 27, 2006 from complications following a brief illness. She was born January 24, 1926, in Safford, Arizona, to Joseph Henry and Lula Jane Platt Nelson Bingham. She graduated from Safford High School and attended Arizona State University during World War II. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister, one son-in-law, and one grandchild. She is survived by her sweetheart husband, Walter Earl, her two daughters, Jennifer Lu Felt (David) and Wanda Jo Benton (James), 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grand- children, one sister (Nadine Johnson) and brother (Eugene Bingham). \
A faithful member of The Church of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served to the last week of her life in her Primary class. Favorite callings in the church were: Primary teacher, Jr. Sunday School coordinator, Relief Society president and teacher, Young Women stake presidency and camp director, YW ward president and leader, and visiting teacher. Claudia and Walter were high school sweethearts and have been together for 65 years. They were married following World War II on November 11, 1945. Their marriage was solemnized in the Oakland Temple. She was a loving bishop's wife for 9 1/2 years, and a faithful temple ordinance worker. She and Walter served two full-time missions in Nauvoo (1993-94) and (1996-97). She currently was serving a church service mission in hosting at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
Claudia loved her country. She was a valiant military wife throughout her husband's 26 year career in the US Air Force, serving in many capacities in the officers' wives club organizations on each base assignment. Through Walter's last assignment at Travis AFB and after his retirement, they lived in Fairfield, California, for 33 years, moving to Bountiful in 1997. Claudia's defining word was "service". She filled her life with little and large acts of kindness. Not afraid of hard work, she was the last to leave the kitchen after a ward activity and the first to greet a friend or stranger with a meal, a plant, a cheerful thought. She had an on-going personal project of hygiene kits for the humanitarian center, and devoted much time to welfare projects and community service.
Claudia was an avid reader and loved to travel, enjoying her most recent trip to her favorite beach in Hawaii. She was active and energetic until her recent illness. She loved to bicycle and camp with her family, particularly at a favorite spot on Lake Tahoe. She enjoyed theater productions and fine restaurants. In Fairfield she was the Symphony League president. She was a gracious hostess and an outstanding cook and baker, having her own catering business at one time. Claudia loved life and friends, and, most importantly, her family. She took great joy in her grandchildren, and now, especially, her great-grandchildren.
