Andrew Morhouse was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War. In private life, he engaged in farming and also conducted, until the death of his first wife, the Morhouse Tavern (South Dover, NY). In the wing of his tavern, he conducted his store. Col. Morhouse owned a sloop on the Hudson River which ran from Fishkill Landing to NYC, about 25 miles.

Family tradition states that he was a paymaster in the Army in the French and Indian War. On his return, he brought home a peck of silver dollars - about 150 lbs.

During the Revolutionary War, he was Lt. Col. of the Third Regiment, NY Levies and militia. He was appointed Col. on 10/17/1775.
