Note: As of the writing of the "History of Hanover" Colonel Barstow was still living in Hanover in his 90th year, about 1/2 of a mile SW of the Four Corners on his farm, known as "Broad Oak Farm," and in the house built by himself in 1799. He was considered a valuable citizen; an enterprising shipbuilder; was Selectman in 1797 and 1798; Representative from 1808 to 1810; and held the military office of Lieutenant, Captain, Major and Colonel. At the age of 90 "as the frosts of 90 winters gathered upon his brow and the infirmities of age are upon him" he retained, to a remarkable degree, the powers of mind and memory, making valuable contributions to the "History." __
