About Joseph Pitkin

The son of William and Elizabeth (Stanley) Pitkin, he was Captain of the 3rd Co. of militia on the east side in 1738 and Colonel of the first regiment in 1751, a representative to the General Assembly for many years, Justice of the Peace in 1726. He was deacon of the Third Church of Harford until his death. -------------------- Colonel of the 1st regiment in 1751. He built, in 1747, a rolling and iron slitting mill at the "Forge Falls." This industry was prohibited by the British Parliament in 1750. Powder was manufacturered here for the army during the Revolution.
