Be it Remembered that on the 3rd Day of Dec one Thousand Seven Hundred & Sixty one John Babcock of Hopkinton in the County of Kings County & Colony of Rhode island &c yeoman Hath Demised and in Consideration of his father Having given him by Deeds of Gift two Certain Tracts of Land Situate in Said Hopkinton Containing about Seventy three acres and three Quarters more or Less as the same is Described in Said Deed Doth by these Presents Lease and to form? Set into his Said Father Oliver Babcock of Hopkinton afore Said yeoman two Certain Tracts of Land in Said Hopkinton Containing about Seventy three acres and three Quarters Being all the Land given him by his Said father as Above Said To Have and to Hold the Said Demised Premises With the Appurtenances to him the Said Oliver Babcock for and During the term of his Natural Life In Witness Whereof I the Said John Babcock hath Hereunto Sett his Hand and Seal the Date above mentioned

b Westerly RI, 1683, d Oct 1773, m (1) Susanna Clark, m (2) Deborah Knowles 2 Dec 1761. Oliver was minor, 21 Apr 1698, at which time he chose his brother, Capt James, as guardian.
On 25 Nov 1715, Oliver gave mortgage on 130 acres of land for 100 Lbs currency, which he borrowed from Colony of RI, w/out interest. Month earlier bro James had borrowed 300 Lbs under similar conditions, fully described in his biography.
Oliver was admitted freeman 1 May 1716. He was Deputy from Westerly to Genl Assembly 1730, '34, '37, '38, '52. (CR of RI, vol v). For lrg part of his life public records refer to him as "Col Oliver Babcock." At mtg of Gen'l Assembly held at Warwick, RI, 2nd Mon of Aug 1735, Capt Oliver Babcock was appointed to committee for creating new harbor in Westerly by turning Pawcatuck River into largest salt pond along Westerly shore, so pond would become commodious & navigable harbor, & would likewise be very convenient for catching & making codfish.
19 Mar 1757, Hopkinton was set off from Westerly & Col Oliver Babcock's home was in new town. He was prob 90 yrs old at his death in 1773.
