About Philemon Waters, III, Colonel

A Patriot of the American Revolution for SOUTH CAROLINA with the rank of COLONEL. DAR Ancestor # A122245

Colonel Philemon Waters was a native of Virginia, born near the Potomac River, in Prince William County. He was a feisty youth growing up and fighting with his friends, causing the towns people of Barryville to call the town, Battletown. "He fought in the French and Indian War, as well as the Revolutionary War alongside George Washington in both wars." During the French and Indian War, he fought with General Edward Braddock under the command of Col. Joshua Fry. Lt. Col. George Washington took command following the deaths of Braddock and Fry. For Waters' service he was given land in South Carolina in a town called Newberry. Col. Waters was buried on his plantation in South Carolina. Colonel Waters was the twin brother to Rosanna Waters Farrow, a Revolutionary war heroine. His brother, Major Thomas Willoughby Waters, as well as his 16 year old son, Philemon (Ferry Phil) Waters fought in the Revolutionary War. Col. Water's was the 3X great uncle of Brigadier General John Herbert Kelly C.S.A., "The Boy General of the Confederacy",who fought and died in the American Civil War.
