Listed in the 1830 Georgia Census Index as living in Oglethorpe County
(p. 082). He is also listed in the 1840 Georgia Census Index. Several
children bythe first marriage are listed in the William Mathews Bible
(Mrs. T. W. Crawford of Lexington, Georgia). Further decendants of
Coleman and William Mathews can be found in "Our Kin" (W. H. Manning, Jr.
and Edna Anderson Manning). The family was Methodist. Francine
Pendergrass has the marriage to Mary Frances Johnson as February 13, 1866.
This is from a letter from Mrs. Sara Mathews Smith of Oglethorpe County,
Georgia to Mrs. Francine Pendergrass: "This now is what I want to write
about and perhaps you have already thought of it in the same light: you
know you and I were guessing (?) that Our Old Wm. Mathews was a son of
Thomas and a grandson of Isaac and Mary - and I think I wrote you that my
Coleman Mathews signed his name Coleman T. Mathews, but seems that no one
ever knew what the T. was for - what else could it be but Thomas? ... I
find that Thomas (Jr.) and Robert Mathews also came to Georgia - Thomas
to Gwinnett Co. and Robert to Fayette Co. - both counties are not too far
from Oglethorpe Co., where Our Old Wm. Mathews settled - so I'll bet a
"pretty penny" that they were three brothers together, coming to Georgia
to SouthCarolina because their uncle, Moses (Sr.) came into Lincoln Co.,
Georgia."
