Osman Dewey Clark, Montpelier, insurance, was born 26 November 1855 in Montpelier [Washington County, Vermont], son of John Wesley and Betsey Ann (Dewey) Clark.

Educated in the Montpelier public schools, and Amherst College, class of 1876. Admitted to Vermont bar 1879; practiced law and was trial justice, Montpelier, 1879-1884; assistant secretary National Life Insurance Company 1885-1899; secretary since 1899; and a director of the company; bailiff, Montpelier, 1882-1884; chief of fire department, 1890-1899.


Was colonel First Vermont Volunteer Infantry, Spanish-American War.

Republican; member of Montpelier Republican Committee 1880-1900; State Republican Committee 1900-1902. Episcopalian; clerk of Christ Church Parish 1885-1906. Member Auroa Lodge, King Solomon Chapter, Montpelier Council, Mt. Zion Commandery, Mt. Sinai Temple; member of Military Order of Foreign Wars, past commander of Commandery of Vermont and present deputy treasurer of National Commandery; member Sons of American Revolution and Loyal Legion; past president Apollo Club; member Montpelier Country Club; past president Vermont State Firemen's Association; trustee of Wood Art Gallery and its secretary-treasurer. In 1882 he [Osman Dewey CLARK] married Elizabeth DeWitt Atkins, of Montpelier; they had two children: DeWitt Atkins, and Barbara; in 1902 he [Osman Dewey Clark] married Lucy Harriet Jacobs of Montpelier.
