About James S. Bunyard

James S. Bunyard was born c.1828, South Carolina. He was the son of William Pittman Bunyard and wife Anna Sophia Vann. He married Matilda Catherine Waldrop. Matilda was the daughter of Meredith G. Waldrop and wife Sarah Gipson. She was born in 1833 in South Carolina and died after 1870 in Mississippi. James and Matilda had three known children.

James enlisted in the 6th Regiment, Company D, Mississippi Infantry. He rose to the rank of corporal. Company D was also known as Lowry's Rifles. He was wound in battle in Georgia and was admitted to Ocmulgee Hospital, Macon, Georgia, on July 21, 1864, and died there on July 31. He was buried in the Confederate Section of the Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Georgia.
