ROANOKE RAPIDS -- Mr. Curtis Beckwith Massey, 78, of 319 Monroe St., Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.
Mr. Massey was born in Halifax County, the son of the late Edward Massey and Narcissa Barnes Massey. He was retired from Champion International and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Army. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the AmVet Post 320.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Birdsong Massey of the home; one daughter, Brenda Massey Duncan of Roanoke Rapids; one brother, Willard Massey of Roanoke Rapids; two sisters, Lucy Barnes and her husband, E.L. Barnes, and Estelle Lassiter and her husband, Bill Lassiter, all of Roanoke Rapids; two grandchildren, Randall L. Barnes Jr. of Wilmington, and Tyler Blake Duncan of Roanoke Rapids; his devoted nieces and nephews, some of which were able to give more of their time, Gerald, Nita and Karen; and a special friend and fishing partner, Bill Cox.
Wrenn Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 6, in the chapel, with Minister Dale Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, July 5, at the funeral home.
