About Daniel Jacobus Botes, g2h3

Botes : b2c1d4e19f1g2h3

My ma het dikwels as ons begraafplase besoek, gaan staan om 'n grafsteen te lees, saggies geprewel en dan gesê: "Ek wonder of sy familie van so of so was?" Ons kinders het goedig daarmee gespot omdat sy so lief vir begraafplase was.

My mother often when we visited cemeteries, stopped at a tombstone to read, and then muttered softly, "I wonder if her family was so or so?" Our kids good-naturedly teased about her love for cemeteries.

I, for some or other reason, suddenly developed this strange affinity to photograph graves, link it to somebody which someone, sometimes myself, put on Geni and save that photograph under "gekoppelde grafstene" (identified tombstones).

Suddenly I am part of my ancestors' history and of others who I know will soon become ancestors of somebody on Geni who I dont know now, but will soon invite me into their family tree. To find all my family and be able to leave something to my descendants, I feel all pieces of information must be documented, researched and checked for accuracy and properly communicated to the descendants. Databases, like the information contained in Geni, must speak to our children in posterity.
