About Daniel Scott, U.E. Loyalist

Daniel Scott, son of Jonathan and Thankful (Hitchcock) Scott came to Canada in 1777.

Daniel's Military career included serving under Col.Peters in Major Jessup's Corps in 1777 and enlisting in the King's Royal Regiment in 1782.

He settled in Sorel, Richelieu County, Quebec, Canada in 1784 where he and his family are recorded in Rev. Doty's records. Daniel moved to Caldwell's Manor where the family farmed until 1803. He was granted land in the Township of Hemmingford but did not settle there; instead, he bought land in Dunham Township, Missisquoi County, Lower Canada in 1803, near the site of West Brome. This area became known as Scottsmore, where descendants of Daniel Scott still live. Proof that Daniel was a Loyalist: Confiscation of property in Rueport, Vermont in 1778.
