Anne Dick writes:
Manufacturing shoes was one of the big big industries in New England and the Atlantic seaboard. Originally one worker made one pair of leather shoes a day. Then technology vastly raised the mfg capacity of shoe factories and they became big business. After WW I the curve started downward due to canvas shoes coming in and this continued after WW II. Shoe making was the first big industry to go overseas. David Lysander Johnson, Moses Perry's Father, made shoes. His wife, Lois Wilbur wouldn't marry him unless he got out of farming.
