David Towne was born in Topsfield, Essex County, Massachusetts in 1693 to John and Mary (Smith) Towne.

His first wife was Mercy Barton. With Mercy, David had:

• Francis Towne: b. March 7, 1719 - d. December 21, 1729
• Hannah Towne: b. September 1, 1720
• Deliverance Towne: b. July 1726

On April 21, 1733, David married Sarah Gary in Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut. With Sarah, David had:

• David Towne: b. July 15, 1734 in Oxford, Worcester County, Massachusetts - d. January 1792 in Hebron, Washington County, New York
• Susannah Towne: b. August 30, 1736 - d. April 9, 1737

David's third wife was Priscilla Hovey, who died in 1741 in Oxford. His fourth and final wife was Margaret Manning.

David died on December 20, 1781 in Belchertown, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.
