On each August 30th since World War II, our Kapilevich family has gathered with their Lahojsk landsmen to remember the deaths of their family members at the hands of Nazi Einsatzgruppen and their collaborators on August 30, 1941.

The events_new_new of that day are described in eyewitness interviews and documents that can be found at http://www1.yadvashem.org/untoldstories/logoysk/gayna_road.html.

The photographs in our collection were taken over the course of six decades and were provided by cousins Dora Plotkina and Masha Zelenko. As nearly all of our family have since emigrated from Belarus, the tradition now continues at the Lahojsk memorial stone in the Holocaust Memorial Park on the water's edge of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. http://www.thmc.org/the_holocaust_memorial_park.html Cousins wishing to join us at the ceremony, now held on the last Sunday in August, are welcome to contact Masha Zelenko at mariya_zelenko@yahoo.com for the exact date and time.
