Many thanks to Allen Grasser for finding Domenick FISCHBACH's (and family) microfilmed passenger listing aboard the LUCIA FIELD - 01 Dec 1852 -, and to T. Noye for posting it to the FISCHBACH home page @
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tnoye/fischbach.html
Out of curiosity I went to the "Germans To America" series to see what I could find. It's there! The ship entry is named the "LUCIA FIELDS"…. FISCHBACH is spelled DESHBACH…. Domenick is spelled 'Dominque" in the
microfilm, and in "Germans To America" he's spelled Domingue"….Their traveling companion Nicholas BRAUN, spelled BROWN in the microfilm, is spelled BROCEM in "Germans To America".
Many KUDOS to those folks who worked on 'Germans To America" and all other researchers. I think the lesson reinforced for me, a user of their research, is that there are mistakes out there that sometimes make it more difficult for me to find my ancestors. Persistence pays off.
I received the following info about the LUCIA FIELD from Michael Palmer of Claremont, CA:
+ Built at Castine, Maine, in 1845
+ A bark of 350 tons (twice the tonnage of the Mayflower - gw)
+ 111 x 26 x 13 feet (length x beam x depth of hold)
+ By 1852 she was based at Bath, Maine
+She was registered in NY as the LUCIA FIELDS in 1853
+ Left Antwerp 10 Oct 1852 - arrived in NY 30 Nov 1852 with 142 Passengers
and merchandise ("Germans To America" lists 143 passengers)
+ Evidently, while still at sea, she communicated to the eastbound ship PARTHENIA, the fact that "there have been 2 deaths and 2 births"
I'm going to write to the Maine Maritime Museum to see whether they have sketches of the LUCIA FIELD.
Will keep all informed.
