Mariano Solis Katigbak graduated with a degree of Bachiller de Artes at Ateneo where he met his classmate and good friend, Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal who would often visit him in Lipa during their student days.
Serving as gobernadorcillo of Lipa, Batangas from 1896 to 1897, he was known as Capitang Ano during the height of its glory.
Capitang Ano was well known in society as a man of great wealth and power. Deeply religious. He inspired all his children and in-laws to the Marian Devotion.
