About Secundino Robles

Don Secundino Robles married Marie Antonio Garcia and they had 29 children before his death. Records will be hard to locate but some of his children’s families are seeking information about him.

From The Robles Brothers story:

The Robles brothers were a group of wild young men who terrorized the central coast region, beginning back in the days when the province of Alta California was but a frontier outpost of the newly established Republic of Mexico and continuing long after California became a state.

Most were the wayward descendants of the leading families from Villa de Branciforte, a tiny civilian settlement that was founded on the bluffs east of the San Lorenzo River in 1797. They were raised in the small adobes which dotted the wide Boulevard now known as Branciforte Avenue, or out on the large cattle ranchos surrounding Monterey Bay. For three generations they made a nuisance of themselves stealing horses, rustling cattle, robbing stage coaches and along the way the managed captured the hearts of the dark-eyed maidens of old California. As they rampaged through the countryside doing just about exactly as they pleased, they also ran afoul of every type of legal law enforcement official; ranging from Mexican “federales,” town marshals, county sheriffs, Wells-Fargo agents and some not so legal, like the local vigilance committees.

Secundino Robles Adobe Site Plaque in Palo Alto, California states:

Secundino and Teodoro Robles bought Rancho Santa Rita, an 8500-acre ranch, from Joseph Pena and built a two-story hacienda on what is now Alma Street and Fern Avenue in Palo Alto, California. Dances and bullfights were held there, much to the delight of the family's children. Elisha O. Crosby bought 250 acres of this ranch and went on to name it Mayfield Farm.
