Donald E. Heiple, 78, of Derry, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Greensburg Care Center. He was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Derry, a son of the late Harry and Virginia Little Heiple. Donald was a veteran of the Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, past commander of the American Legion Post 324 and a former member of VFW Post 444, all of Derry. He was also a member of the Latrobe Elks Lodge No. 907. Donald enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid gardener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris McGinnis Heiple, in 1985; two brothers, Leo and Wilmont Heiple; one daughter-in-law, Keli Heiple; and a stepson, Paul Daw. He is survived by his wife, Beverly H. Huff Daw Heiple; four sons, Brian E. Heiple and wife, Linda, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; Harry Heiple and wife, Barbara, of New Alexandria, Keith L. Heiple and friend, Tonya Simms, of Hazlett, Texas, and Donald J. Heiple, of Latrobe; one stepdaughter, Donna Showalter and husband, Patrick, of Derry; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Heiple, of Latrobe, and Peggy Heiple, of Columbus, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Matthew, Tim, Amanda, Diana, Tina, Ashleigh and Alex Heiple, Kevin McKenna, Eric and Evan Daw and Holly and Lisa Showalter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to Donald's "life celebration" services from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., a life celebration home, 529 North Chestnut St., Derry. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Stephen C. West as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Laurel Mountains Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.
