The Anglo –Boer war saw many South African families divided by loyalties, and the Moodie family was no exception. Donald Moodie, a brother of James and Thomas, “Big Tom” Moodie, supported the British cause, and his son, Benjamin was killed at the battle of Diamond Hill, near Pretoria, in June 1900, while fighting with G Squadron, Roberts Horse of the British army.
