Dr Caroline Jackson adds additional info on his death: "I am editing for publication by Rhodes Univerisity (the Cory Library Grahamstown series) the diary of Captain James Primrose,(1819-1892) of the 43rd regiment who took part in the campaign in the Eastern Cape in 1851-2. In his diary under the heading for February 7th 1852 he says: "The Lancers killed a Kaffir. it is supposed his name is Dundas and he is a brother of Sandellas, a Chief of course. The Fingo who shot him took his gun and what ammunition h had which consisted of 13 balls and very little powder which seems to corroborate the reports of their having but a small quantity of ammunition. An ivory bracelet was also taken from his arm which some of our people endeavoured to purchase and they offered as much as £2 for it. But nothing they could in reason name would part it from its captor"
