General Notes:Dr. Abundius Abreo graduated from Grant Colleg in Bombay and then served as an army doctor during World War I. He went to Edinburgh in 1923 and obtained his FRCS. He settled in Waterford, County Wexford, Ireland. The only Indian doctor in Ireland at the time he was hugely popular and known as the "Black" doctor. Like his cousin Dr. John Francis D'Abreu, Dr. Abundius Abreo also changed his last name to D'Abreu.
Abundius married Lucy Victoria D'SOUZA, daughter of Joseph D'SOUZA and Marceline SALDANHA. Lucy was born on May 24, 1892 in Dharwar, India and died on Dec 7, 2005 in Scotland at age 113.
General Notes:Mrs. Lucy D’Abreu, who currently resides in Stirling, Scotland, wishes to be remembered to her Waterford friends, especially Eileen Coughlan and Rina Aylward. Hail and hearty at the age of 110, Mrs. D’Abreu also sends greetings to the members of the Waterford Bridge Club. Born in India in 1892, Mrs d'Abreu lived most of her life in County Wexford, Ireland, where her husband, who was a cousin by marriage to the Queen Mother, established a surgical practice.
The Queen visited Stirling on May 24th, 2002 to present 'Letters Patent' which grant official city status to Stirling . Thousands lined the streets in the rain to greet the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. The presentation of the documents took place in the Municipal Chambers and they will now go on display.
Scotland's oldest woman Lucy D'Abreu celebrated her 110th birthday by meeting the Queen at the Municipal Buildings. Mrs d'Abreu, who was given the middle name Victoria after the reigning monarch when she was born, chatted with the Queen for several minutes. After the presentation, the Royal party met 42 specially invited guests who included MSPs Sylvia Jackson and Keith Harding, Magnus Magnusson, Elspeth King - Director of The Smith, Dr Rennie McOwan - writer and broadcaster.
Mrs Lucy D'Abreu attributes her long life to "my customary sun-downer of brandy and dry ginger ale".
