Dwaine Leon Whitworth, 64, of Chanute, passed away Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. Dwaine was born in Los Angeles, California on July 15, 1943, the son of Raymond and Lena (Lowe) Whitworth. As a young child the family moved to the Kimball/Stark area where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Judy Kustanborter on December 24, 1960 in Chanute. In earlier years he worked for Neosho County and owned his own oil truck before moving to Humboldt where he established Whitworth Construction in 1974. Second to loving and raising his family was his love for stock car racing. He was known for being a “fearless” race car driver at several area race tracks. After retiring from driving, he was instrumental in track surface preparation for the past 19 years at Humboldt Speedway. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. For 12 years he and his wife operated “Judy’s Funnel Cake Concession Trailer at local events. Along with his wife Judy, Dwaine is survived by two sons, Jerry Leon Whitworth of Santa Monica, CA, Ron Whitworth and his wife Rhenda of Chanute; and a daughter, Traci Whitworth of Humboldt; grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, and Ravyn Whitworth and Shaela Anderson-Onnen; brothers, Dick and his wife Judy Whitworth of Miami, OK, Dan and his wife Loretta Whitworth of Bullhead City, AZ, and Dale and his wife Holly Whitworth of Houston, TX; sisters Darlene Gumfory and her husband Bon of Iola, KS and Diane Richwine and her husband Bill of Erie, KS; brothers-in-law, David Kustanborter and his wife Sunny of Bullhead City, AZ and Jerry Kustanborter and his wife Lynne of Chanute; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Donna Goff; in-laws Chester and Mary Kustanborter; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Kustanborter. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2008 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel. Cremation is planned. Memorials in his name may be made to Friends of Tri-Valley and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
