Abe J. Uhlenkott, a retired electrician and Clarkston resident, died of pneumonia and complications of surgery Wednesday December 9, 1992 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. He was 78.

He owned and operated S.O.S. Electronics at Cottonwood from 1945 to 1988, when he retired and moved with his wife, Helen, to Clarkston.

He was born to Gerhard and Elizabeth Hoene Uhlenkott on March 13, 1914, at Keuterville, Idaho.

He married Helen Nuxoll at Cottonwood Sept. 17, 1940, and the couple moved to Portland, Ore., where he worked as a welder from 1941 to 1945.

They returned to Keuterville in 1945 and he opened his business in Cottonwood. He also served as a band leader at Cottonwood for 15 years and owned TV cable companies at Cottonwood, Craigmont and Nezperce.

He sold the businesses in 1988, when they moved to Clarkston.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church at Clarkston and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of Clarkston; six daughters, Anita Remacle and Pam Braun, both of Clarkston, Jan Frei and Kathy Berg, both of Grangeville, Sherry Szatkowski of Spokane and Debbie Knowlton of Reubens, Idaho; three sons, Dick Uhlenkott, Ron Uhlenkott and Terry Uhlenkott, all of Clarkston; two brothers, Norbert Uhlenkott of Colton and Larry Uhlenkott of Cottonwood; three sisters, Sally Sullivan and Rose Rodgers, both of Lewiston, and Sister Scholastica of Nampa; 33 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and a brother died previously.

Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Merchant Funeral Home at Clarkston.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at Mechant Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Gary Uhlenkott of Spokane at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston.
