About Edmund Nelson

Edmond Nelson, one of the pioneers of Idaho Falls and the Snake River valley, past away at his home in this city last Friday evening, death being caused by heart lesion.

Mr. Nelson was born in Nauvoo, ILL. On May 29th 1842. At the time of the expulsion of the Mormon people from that city he moved with his parents to Mount Pisgah, a place where many of the people moved after the trouble at Nauvoo. He remained there for four years after which he and his parents crossed the plains and located in Alpine, UT. Shortly after arriving at Alpine his father died and the support of his aged mother rested on him. In 1860 Mr. Nelson drove by ox team to what was then known as Franklin, ID. The first place in the state to be permanently located. As Mr. Nelson drove the head team for the company of settlers. He was known as the first settler of the state of Idaho. After living there for a few years he moved to Idaho Falls where he has made his home ever since, something over seventeen years.
