"I looked at the film but there are very few details I'm afraid. Something of interest is that all of the passengers appear to have been male Railway workers from various parts of the British Isles. So there was probably some kind of recruitment drive in the UK for Railway navvies. "
In Memoriam, in the "Townsville Daily Bulletin" of Saturday 18 October 1952:
" NEWSHOLME: In loving memory of my dear husband Edmund Rowley' who departed this life 18th October. 1936. "Many a thought brings a silent tear." (Inserted by his loving wife. S. Newsholme. and Family "
The Public Curator published in the "Townsville Daily Bulletin" of Saturday 7 November 1936: "Edmund Rowley Newsholme, Garbutt's Siding, bricklayer" in their list of those dying intestate for wills completed during the month of November 1936.
There is a lengthy report in the "Townsville Daily Bulletin" of Wednesday 14 August 1912, which relates in detail a successful claim by Newsholme against a Constable Patrick Manning on a charge of assault.
Also in the "Townsville Daily Bulletin of Wednesday 8 April 1936 there is detailed reporting of a "Settlement Reached" between " Edmund Rowley Newsholme, of Townsville, contrac tor (plaintiff) claimed from John Far dooly. of Garradunga, near Innisfail, baker, Constantine Perry, of Innis fail, baker, and Sam Charcalis, of Innisfail storekeeper, for and on behalf of tbe Greek Orthodox Community, of Innisfail and North Queensland (de fendants), the sum of £126/0/9 for work done and materials supplied to the defendants at their request. In a counter-claim, the defendants claimed £200 damages...When the matter was called before His Honor, at 11.30 a.m., Mr. Barry announced that a settlement had been arrived at, and by agreement he asked that the claim and counter claim be struck out. "
Defendant claimed short pay for poor standard of job and rectification needed (in detail in above report).
The "Townsville Daily Bulletin" of Thursday 14 May 1936 told us:
"Yesterday saw a chapter of accidents, the ambulance bearers attending several victims. At 11.40 a.m. a call was received to the Newmarket Hotel, where a man named E. Newsholme, a resident of Garbutt's Siding, sustained a fractured right jawbone, slight con cussion, and abrasions to the face and forearm when he fell from a scaffold . He was treated by the ambulance and oonveyed to hospital. "
