Edmund Plantagenet of Langley, 1st Duke of York, was born June 5, 1341 at King's Langley, Hertfordshire, England, and was christened there. He was teh son of Edward Plantagenet III, King of England, and Philippa of Hainault, Queen of England.

He acceded to his title on August 6, 1385 at Hoselaw, Teviotdale, England. He died August 1, 1402 at King's Langley and was buried at Dominicans, Langley Hertfordshire.

Edmond Plantagenet was made Knight of the Garter, and was elevated to Earl of Cambridge in 1362.
